Short summary A consortium with Swiss, UK and EU partners looks for pilot hospitals for a Horizon Europe project which is currently being evaluated by the European Commission. The project will deliver an emission free fuel by providing the pilots with hydrogen fuel at a fourth of the price of diesel. Vehicles (busses, cars, ambulance, drones, etc.) will be provided and tested at the pilot hospital site. The project HYDROEFFI plans to demonstrate a possible pathway to zero-emission mobility by 2030.

Full description The future of energy tastes like water! A natural resource essential for life and for most human activities. For decades, the power of moving water was also harnessed for its ability to generate work, being the feedstock for the largest source of renewable energy on our planet. Nevertheless, forthcoming challenges such as increasing global climate warming and getting from innovation to an economy, with net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Water will flow into other types of new energy sources like hydrogen (H2). HYDROEFFI, the project which was submitted to the call HORIZON-MISS-2022-CIT-01-01 by a consortium of Swiss, UK and EU countries partners is the enabler for energy transition, reaching climate neutrality in urban locations and key infrastructures, solving problems of increasing mobility. This project is the green, most promising and resilient alternative to the status quo. It will produce hydrogen much more efficiently and scalable than current electrolysers and cheapen it considerably down to 25% of actual fossil fuel costs. HYDROEFFI will boost the development of trial hydrogen fuel stations, vehicles, innovative air drone equipment and will showcase pilots in urban hospital ecosystems of the EU. The project applies a ground breaking methodology of electrolysis which mimics a part of the photosynthesis process with water. The H2 will be used by ground and air vehicles. Introducing hydrogen-powered drones will lower urban traffic and flight autonomy with zero CO2 emissions, accelerating its scaled use for infrastructure, regulations and businesses. The consortium invites multidisciplinary experts who are dedicated to a sustainable impact on clean production and use of H2 energy around the globe. It ensures the interoperability between stakeholders and furnishers by making new technologies available at minimum costs and maximum CO2 reduction. The integration and showcasing of the results ensure the highest possible technical, societal and economical impact from the very beginning of the project, as well as during the project lifetime and even long after its official duration. The consortium is now looking for pilot hospitals in cities for the submitted project of the call HORIZON-MISS-2022-CIT-01-01 awaiting evaluation by the European Commission. The pilot hospitals will not be invited as partners/beneficiaries, but will act as a test environment. This means that they receive vehicles, an H2 production and refuelling facility and other benefits, but do not receive funding from the EU. Only a formal letter of commitment (LOC) is needed from the hospital, but no further administrative details (such as PIC, etc.).

Advantages and innovations Pilot case urban hospitals have the following advantages: 1. Reduction of fuel costs to ¼ price compared to fossil fuels for the hospital fleet 2. Extremely energy-efficient production of hydrogen (H2) on site, only water and very little electricity is needed. 3. Thanks to H2 propulsion and fuel station with CO2=0 emissions 4. Logistic tests with latest H2 powered small and big drones 5. Free oxygen O2 for the hospital 6. Latest generation H2 vehicles, cars, vans, scooters from different car manufacturers 7. Showcase of the first H2 driven ambulance 8. Less traffic jam around the hospital, better living and working conditions 9. Participation in a very exciting Horizon Europe project

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought The consortium is now looking for pilot hospitals in cities for the submitted project of the call HORIZON-MISS-2022-CIT-01-01 awaiting evaluation by the European Commission. The proposal was submitted for the call deadline on 06. September 2022.
